The office of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jaiñtia Hills celebrated the World Pulses Day under the theme, “Atmanirbhar Bharat-Harnessing potential pulses for import substitution” at Namdong village yesterday.
The programme was attended by 49 farmers and officials of the department.
Firstborn Sutnga, Senior Research Fellow (SRF) of NICRA Project, highlighted the concept of the programme and also about pulses and also held a demonstration on line sowing of seeds.
R.Suchiang, Subject Matter Specialist (AH&Vety), KVK Jaiñtia Hills spoke on the importance of millets which are known to be a repository of protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals.
Cheku Aman Pariat, Senior Research Fellow (SRF), ARYA Project delivered a lecture on pulses, types of pulses and its importance to diet.
Seeds were also distributed to the farmers at the programme.
