The office of District Mission Coordinator, SSA, North Garo Hills yesterday organised a programme on to celebrate World Literacy Day at Mendipathar Multipurpose Society Hall, Resubelpara.
Nominated MDC of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Aldo A Sangma, who attended the programme as the chief guest in his speech, stressed on the importance of literacy for the overall development of any individual and society. Since literacy is a step towards education, therefore every child should have access to quality education as it will empower the child to unlock his or her dream thereby encouraging them to reach full potential, he said.
The observation of the day serves as a reminder “to renew our commitment in ensuring that no child is left behind” in the area of education, Sangma added.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nippon Hajong highlighted the government’s education schemes for encouraging children to have compulsory and quality education. Speaking on the Out of School Children (OoSC), the ADC said that active coordination from all stakeholders is required for redressing drop outs children.
It was informed that the district has recorded 155 school dropouts during 2022-2023. These children were being enrolled under special training centres, he informed.
DSEO, Samar Dey in his introductory address, spoke at length on the importance of the programme and also highlighted the activities of DMC for their efforts in spreading literacy across the district.
During the programme, award for best performing Cluster Resource Centres under Resubelpara Block, Bajengdoba block and Kharkutta block were given away respectively and distribution of Teaching Learning Materials was also held simultaneously.
