The State Council of Science, Technology & Environment is organising two workshops which began today – one on ‘Innovative Experiments in Physics’ and another on puppetry.
These are part of the council’s initiatives to popularise science. They both began today and will run until Monday (barring Sunday) in parallel sessions at the Shillong Science Centre on the NEHU campus from 10am to 5pm.
The workshops will be attended by science teachers, BEd students, NGOs, MSW students and the ‘maths and science ambassadors’ of the state. MA Jyrwa, the official in charge of the Principal College of Teacher Education (PGT), graced the inaugural session as the chief guest. BK Tyagi, Scientist ‘F’ from Vigyan Prasar, New Delhi, along with his team, will lead the technical sessions during the three-day workshops.
The physics workshop will equip science teachers with different interesting teaching modules to make concepts, principles and theories in the subject clearer to students. The workshop on puppetry, on the other hand, will impart knowledge on the art of making puppets and script writing and the use of its form in creating awareness among citizens of the state on many superstitious beliefs and prevalent social issues.
