Shillong, Sep 9: A one-day district-level workshop on the Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialisation (UNNATI) Scheme 2024 was held today at Ampati.
The programme was organised by the Office of the General Manager, District Commerce & Industries Centre (DCIC) and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
The UNNATI scheme aims to attract fresh investment to the North East and integrate the region more closely with the industrial and economic mainstream of the country. It offers a package of financial incentives—including capital support, interest subsidies, and tax benefits—designed to make investment in the North East more attractive and sustainable.
The workshop was attended by Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak as the chief guest. In her address, she stressed the need for sustained commitment from both government officials and potential investors or entrepreneurs to ensure that the benefits of schemes like UNNATI are fully realised.
She spoke about the district’s industrial prospects, noting that its location along the international border with Bangladesh and the interstate border with Assam—often seen as a challenge—could be transformed into an advantage for trade and industrial growth.
Nayak further highlighted the unique land tenure system in Meghalaya, which poses hurdles for industrial projects, while urging local communities to collaborate with investors in a spirit of partnership.
The Deputy Commissioner also assured that the district administration and line departments are prepared to extend full support to facilitate investment.
DCIC General Manager Namchi Frieda R. Marak highlighted efforts to promote industrial growth and entrepreneurship through various schemes and facilitation measures.
The technical sessions were conducted by B. Warjri, Consultant with the Project Implementation Unit, UNNATI.
The workshop witnessed the participation of more than 75 attendees, including officials from various line departments, entrepreneurs, and potential investors.
