A workshop on water quality in East Jaintia Hills district with specific study on change of colour of the Lunar-Lukha river was organised by the Department of Water Resources in Khliehriat today.
Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi said the workshop is beneficial to both officials and researchers who had conducted studies on the rivers and also stakeholders attending the programme.
He expressed optimism that the deliberations would help offer practical solutions to the issues and challenges concerning the pollution in the river.
Chief Engineer (Water Resources), A.D Blah, Scientist, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Arnab Mondal, Executive Engineer (Water Resources), K. Lamare, Executive Engineer, (Water Resources) Hydro Informatics (HI) R.R Lyngskor, various line department officials, traditional heads, teachers and students of Don Bosco College, Byndihati and Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat attended the workshop.
Presentations were made by officials of the Central Pollution Control Board, Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board, Water Resources Department, Saindur Enviro Pvt Ltd and academicians from the Department of Zoology, St. Anthony’s College and the Department of Environmental Studies, North Eastern Hill University.
