The Department of Textile and Apparel Designing at the College of Community Science (CCS) in Tura celebrated Silk Day and organised a one day workshop on ‘Sericulture and Silk Processing for a Sustainable Livelihood’ today.
Farmers from Garo Hills and students of the college attended along with K Indirakumar of the Central Silk Board, Tura. CCS Dean Jyoti V Vastrad presided over the event. The workshop was organised by Mamoni Probha Borah.
During the workshop, resources persons delivered lectures on sericulture and its practices for sustainable livelihoods, muga disease management technology pre- and post-care, potential uses of sericulture by products and also on silk processing and value additions for livelihoods to the farmers of Garo Hills.
The programme was sponsored by the state government’s Department of Sericulture and Weaving and CCS’s mother university, the Central Agricultural University (I).
Sericulture host plants for eri and mulberry culture were distributed among the farmers to encourage sericulture practices.
