Work for construction of the Borghat-Sonapur road in East Jaintia Hills would commence by early September.
This was informed by the State government during the hearing of a PIL in the division bench of the Meghalaya High Court today.
Government lawyer S Sengupta also told the court that the funds are available and there would be no impediment to the quick completion of the 102 kilometre road project once it commences.
Sengupta also stated that a letter of acceptance has been issued by the State PWD to the contractor who has been selected to undertake the work.
The contractor has also furnished a bank guarantee. Certain other formalities, including the modalities of construction, have to be worked out.
Meanwhile, the High Court asked the State government to file a status report at the next hearing on September 16 particularly indicating the time of completion and, if possible, a bar chart, indicating the stages of construction.
The Borghat-Sonapur road will provide connectivity to the four border villages – Huroi, Hingaria, Lahelein and Lejri.
The DONER Ministry has sanctioned Rs 126 crore for the construction of the road.
