Ampareen Lyngdoh, the Congress Party’s leader in the Assembly, will not leave the party “like a thief in the night”, she said today, 24 hours after her husband and Malki Laitumkhrah MDC Joseph Fantin Lakadong said that he was considering quitting in favour of the National People’s Party.
Lakadong’s move raised questions about Lyngdoh’s own loyalties.
“I am a Congress legislator and won East Shillong on a Congress ticket. I will not leave from the backdoor nor will I enter from a ventilator into anyone else’s house. I will deal with my insecurities, which are currently very strong, but I will not leave my party like a thief in the night. Most importantly, I will not deceive my supporters but will execute my duties to my party as assigned,” Lyngdoh said.
However, she stood by her husband, saying the MDC’s argument against the party has merit and that his MDC constituency covers five Assembly seats and, thus, his needs “go beyond the purview of East Shillong.”
