The Hynniewtrep Youths Council (HYC) will not accept any excuses from the state government if it does not release scholarship funds to students by next week.
The HYC had served the state government a one week deadline on Tuesday.
Speaking to Highland Post today, HYC education secretary Enlang Sawian said that the delay in the release of the scholarship has put students, especially those coming from weak economic backgrounds, in great hardship to pay their fees.
He said that the Education Minister has given his assurance recently to release the funds of students including Class 11-12, undergraduate and master’s students but, to date, many have not received the scholarship.
This year the release of the scholarship has been delayed more than was the case last year when students from various colleges and universities hit the streets in protest.
“This year the same thing has been repeated and further delayed. When our members met the Education Minister recently at a programme at Tyrsad, they were told that the reason for the delay is because of the change of IFC codes of the banks,” he said, adding that the HYC will not fall for various excuses repeated year after year.
Stating that the semester examination of the students has started and is nearly ending and they will soon be directed by their colleges to renew their admission, he said that if the scholarships are not released on time then the students will face hardships and some will not be able to continue their studies.
