Two women were arrested with 1790 Yaba tablets during a joint operation launched by police and BSF in South West Khasi Hills district yesterday.
Identified as Jasmine Sangma (45) and Ritima Sangma (40) of Bholabita village in East Khasi Hills, the women divulged that they were hired by an unidentified Indian national to throw Yaba packets over a fence to Bangladesh, BSF officials said.
“The consignment was confiscated while both the women were moving stealthily near the International Border in the area of BSF BOP Karaigora under 193 Bn BSF,” the BSF said.
Both of them were handed over to police in Gumaghat and investigation is on.
Meanwhile, the BSF Meghalaya handed over a Bangladeshi woman to the Border Guard Bangladesh who inadvertently crossed the international border as a good will gesture on April 1.
BSF stationed at BOP Umsyiem had intercepted a 55-yeal old woman identified as Maryam of Kalmakanda district in Bangladesh.
The BSF said the woman disclosed that she was not aware of the alignment of international border as the border is zigzag and unfenced and she entered Indian territory unintentionally.
