Acting on the sacking of a woman by Meghalaya Ply, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) took matters into its own hands and put the factory at the Umiam industrial estate in Ri-Bhoi under lock and key today.
The woman claimed that she was fired without due cause, leading to the arbitrary action by the pressure group.
While there, the KSU also decided to check on the documents of the non-tribal workforce and supposedly found that most of them did not have valid documentation.
Police and a magistrate were rushed to the scene to prevent a deterioration in law and order.
