A FIR has been filed against members of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) by a woman for physical assault during the recent protest organised by the group to demand implementation of the inner line permit (ILP).
Elizabeth Marten, of Umbuda Nongpoh in Ri Bhoi district alleged that she was assaulted by the members of the pressure group on November 27 at around 2: 30 pm at Nongpoh auto stand.
Speaking to reporters today Marten said on that day a heated argument took place between the HYC members and her brother, Marcus Marten for protesting against raising black flags at the auto stand.
Marcus is the president of the auto association in Nongpoh, she said, adding, he protested against raising the black flags because no prior information was given to him.
“I saw these HYC members that includes Hercules Suting, Jeson Nongrum, and Mission Tron assaulting my brother and when I went to separate. But I was also physically assaulted by Hercules and the others members who were under the influence of alcohol also used foul languages against me and threatened me,” Elizabeth said.
She further demand action against the HYC members and said that people who perpetrate such acts on women should not be elected as leaders of the organisation.
Meanwhile, the leader HNYF women’s wing Betty Jyrwa has condemned the act and said that they will soon file a complaint with the State Women’s Commission.
