Nongstoiñ, Sep 16 : The West Khasi Students Union (WKSU) has urged the State government to strengthen the district library in Nongstoiñ as knowledge and learning centre which will cater to students of the district.
The WKSU said since the district headquarters has its own library but not on its own permanent building, it has not been able to provide the required learning environment for students.
“The literacy rate of West Khasi Hills has reached 78.83 per cent as per the 2011 census. Therefore the government has to strengthen
it as it is the source to knowledge and an instrument for putting progressive methods into practice,” the union said.
It also urged the government not just to provide the library with books, but to it should equip it with computers for educational purposes.
The WKSU further urged the government to provide an auditorium
for the district. “It is a matter of shame that the district headquarter has no auditorium of its own,” WKSU president D.Sun said. He said that if the government looks into the two requirements, the district will develop in terms of education
