The Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Iooksi and two smaller sub-centres need urgent attention from the state government, Health and Family Welfare Minister James PK Sangma has been told.
The Synjuk Wahen Shnong of Iooksi and Saphai village along with the Kupli unit of the Khasi Students Union met Sangma to apprise him of matters that concern the area, one of which is the state of the health centres.
The PHC, located close to the Kupli reservoir and Assam border, lacks drinking water supply as well as mobile phone and internet network. Even more seriously, the facility has no supervisor and is short on doctors, which has increased the workload of those there at present and hampered the PHC’s functioning.
Meanwhile, health sub-centres at Saphai and Nongryngkoh also lack drinking water and do not even have electricity. The buildings themselves are deficient, with not enough space for the staff to function, the synjuk said.
