The Meghalaya Sport Climbing & Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) informed today that its executive member, Teimiki Sungoh, secured first place in a rock climbing competition while undertaking the Advanced Mountaineering Course at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling.
Sungoh, of Shangpung in West Jaiñtia Hills, will be awarded Grade A, the highest grade given by the institute, for his fantastic performance in the training course. This batch featured 58 trainees from all over India.
This training course was held from April 1 and concluded today. Sungoh’s participation was sponsored by the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs through the Meghalaya State Olympic Association.
Trainees had to undergo revision of rock climbing training, ice and snow craft, navigation, high altitude training with height gain to 17,000 feet above sea level and use of rope with modern equipment for rescue in different scenarios. Trainees were required to be physically and mentally fit and have a positive and adventurous attitude of team spirit with leadership skills.
