Shillong, Aug 20: With the relocation of hawkers from the Khyndailad area more or less complete, the state government will approach the process in other areas of the state capital in a phased manner, with the target to complete the job by November.
“Despite various challenges we are happy that today we have the busiest commercial hub of the city which has been retransferred for the use of the pedestrians and with the successful relocation of vendors,” state government spokesperson and cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh today said.
On what the government will do in other areas of the city, he informed that it will, in a phased manner, clear and relocate hawkers from Laitumkhrah, outside Shillong Civil Hospital, Boucher Road (Them Bijoy) and Motphran.
“These are major commercial areas and we have a target date of completing all the relocation and decongesting of these areas by November this year,” he added.
