The central government could push more development for Meghalaya if the BJP is given a major role in governance under the NPP-led MDA government, Union cabinet minister Kiren Rijiju said.
Rijiju told reporters at the sidelines of a ‘Rozgar Mela’, a recruitment drive of 10 lakh personnel, here today that, “NDA has to have a major role in the governance here otherwise it would be unfortunate for the people.”
The BJP, with two MLAs, is an ally of the NPP-led coalition government in the state.
Rijiju said Meghalaya people have voted for the MDA government, which is doing a good job. “But I wish BJP has more role in the government because it will bring more development and benefits to the people,” he said.
He said wherever the BJP is in power or has a larger role in governance, the “benefits are much more,” because the party has one single agenda of working for the people in a mission mode.
“We have no time, no energy for ourselves. We dedicate everything for the people. So Meghalaya deserves more MLAs from BJP party,” he stated.
The union minister remarked that the MDA government in the state is “doing a lot of good things,” but these can be given a proper push, if BJP plays a bigger role in the government.
On the issue of implementation of the Inner Line Permit in the State, Rijiju said, “The government has to take a collective decision taking into account the larger interest of everyone. I cannot comment on anything specific because it requires deliberation and consultation.”
