What will be the first state-administered university, the under-construction Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University, will be inaugurated next year on January 21, the 50th year of Meghalaya statehood, it was announced today.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma inspected the site in South West Garo Hills today and expressed his satisfaction at the progress.
“Almost 80 percent of the construction work is complete and we are hopeful that by October the campus will be ready,” he was quoted as saying in a press release.
The university, being built at an estimated cost of Rs 16.96 crore, is located in Balalgre and will offer technical and engineering courses.
“Next year we will celebrate the 50th year of our statehood and, coinciding with the celebration, we will dedicate 50 development initiatives to the people of our state. I am delighted that Captain Williamson Sangma University will also be part of this grand celebration,” the CM added.
Sangma was accompanied on his tour of the facility by North Tura MLA Thomas A Sangma and Tura MP Agatha K Sangma.
The Chief Minister also later inspected the site of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, the first of its kind in the North East, nearby. This institute will also be inaugurated next year.
