Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisation (CoMSO) chairman Robertjune Kharjahrin today said that the indigenous people of Meghalaya will not rest until the state is granted Inner Line Permit (ILP).
“The agitation, the people’s movement (for ILP) will end only if ILP is granted,” Kharjahrin said, adding that this is the stand of the general population and even legislators in the Assembly, who passed a resolution to that effect in 2019.
Kharjahrin also said that the pressure groups are eagerly awaiting the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Shillong on July 24-25.
The pro-ILP groups have asked for an audience with Shah, but no intimation has come forth from his office.
“We are mentally prepared to have a lengthy discussion with him. I would like to request that if he gives an appointment, he should also give us quality time. This issue cannot be discussed in 10-15 minutes. It needs proper discussion and I request everybody to remain united,” the CoMSO chairman said.
Kharjahrin was also optimistic that the Centre will, eventually, grant ILP to Meghalaya.
On the appeal of the outlawed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council to boycott Shah’s visit, the pressure group leader said that every organisation has its own approach and CoMSO wishes to pursue talks at present.
