Leaders of the Hynñiewtrep Youths Council (HYC) today met Community and Rural Development Minister Hamletson Dohling to find out what is the progress on the state government’s plan to introduce ‘Community Rural Development Services’ and ‘Community Rural Engineering Services’, which had been announced in 2018.
HYC president Robertjune Kharjahrin said that the cabinet had approved a proposal to set up these two services in July 2018 but no rules have been framed in order to carry out the cabinet’s decision.
Such services will, the pressure said, create more employment opportunities as the C&RD Department “will have their own service and staff cadres from the level of Gram Sevak, Junior Engineers, Assistant Engineers and BDOs (Block Development Officers)”. Currently these officials in these grades are being seconded from other departments.
Without a framework of rules, the 2018 decision “remains just another decision and announcement of the state government on paper only,” the HYC added.
