The West Garo Hills district administration will conduct a vaccination campaign against Japanese encephalitis from October 1 and has urged the public to cooperate with the immunization programme that is targeting children between the ages of 1 and 15.
Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh recently chaired a meeting in Tura to discuss modalities of the campaign. The immunization drive was mean to be conducted in March but was delayed due to the Covid-19 lockdown that began that month.
Doses of the vaccine have arrived in the district and sensitization activities are ongoing to prepare the public for the campaign, which will simultaneously run with the national de-worming programme.
Because schools are closed due to the pandemic, the vaccination campaign will be held at the community level through camps organised in community halls. Covid-19 protocols will be adhered to throughout.
