Two days after Meghalaya police under South Garo Hills recovered a huge stash of ammunition apparently hidden by the GNLA, more than 1200 high caliber ammunition was recovered from a jungle between South West Garo Hills and West Garo Hills district today.
As per information received, the recovery of the ammunition, numbering 254 in 3 boxes, was made possible after information was received from sources.
The type of ammunition, as per police reports, contained in the boxes were anti armour, high caliber rounds.
“The recovery was made near the Naragre village forest reserve under Damalgre PS in South West Garo Hills. The team making the discovery was led by Dy SP (HQ) with the seizure being based on source information,” West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Dr MGR Kumar informed.
Further the seized ammunitions along with FIR were handed over to Damalgre police station, with information to the South West Garo Hills SP, for further necessary action.
Police sources said that the ammunition is suspected to have been hidden by the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) during its militancy peak.
“We are also developing sources to continue digging up such arms and ammunition that remain hidden and appeal to all to confidentially provide information, if they have any. The recovery of the same is in the interest of maintaining law and order, peace and preventing the same from getting into the hands of miscreants, and anti-social elements,” Dr Kumar urged.
