Shillong, Dec 15: The Meghalaya High Court has cautioned the State government to be careful while submitting reports and disclosing the steps taken with regards to functioning and repair of weighbridges across the State.
A division bench of Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Hamarsan Thangkhiew while hearing a PIL today said there are discrepancies in the affidavit when compared to earlier reports.
The court said a report filed by the Transport Commissioner on May 8, 2025 was inaccurate.
The court also directed the state government to make the weighbridge at Ratacherra in East Jaintia Hills District functional within eight weeks.
In response to an affidavit filed before the court, the court said it appears that the weighbridge has been non-functional since September 2024 and steps have been taken for repairing the entry and exit road of the weighbridge only on November 20, 2025.
