Two constables of the Meghalaya police were arrested with drugs in East Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills districts of the state.
The constables are identified as Ajay Chettri and Sheemanto Hajong. They were arrested in separate operations carried out by police.
Police said Chettri was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Task Forces (ANTF) early this morning and about 10.53 gms of heroin was seized from his possession.
The drug was sent by another drug peddler identified as 29-year old Khrawbok Diengdoh of Dongkamon Nongmensong, who was also arrested, police added.
Hajong on the other hand was arrested from Praharinagar area with two other persons identified as Sumon Mojimdhar (28) of Dobasipara, Gudhu Modak (18) of Fancy Valley, Tura in West Garo Hills, wherein police recovered 48 Spasmo-Proxyvon (SP) capsules and seized an auto rickshaw bearing registration number ML-08H-2128 and six mobile phones.
Meanwhile, police in East Khasi Hills also detained the driver, handyman and owner of a Shillong-Tura night super bus, Ria Travels identified as 57-year old Arup Nag of Upper Babupara, 59-year old Suresh Burman of Beldarpara and 33-year old Shankar Dalu of Mukdangra, Garobadha for interrogation.
Police seized a mobile phone with sim card, the bus bearing registration number ML-08E-6111 and a Maruti Suzuki Car bearing registration number AS-01AB-6116.
In Ri Bhoi district, Jorabat police apprehended three people suspected to be involved in the smuggling of cannabis, with two of those hailing from Meghalaya. More than 40kg of cannabis was seized from their possession.
Acting on intelligence, police began checking vehicles and, in the process, discovered a Maruti Zen (ML 10 C 9707) in which the drugs were concealed.
The two people travelling in the car were identified as Kitboklang Marwein (30) of Mawiong, East Khasi Hills and Vian Nongrum (23) of Nongpoh.
During their interrogation, they revealed the name of the person they were set on delivering the cannabis to and police were able to arrest the individual, identified as Pari Dawri from Khanapara.
Further investigations are ongoing.
