Residents of several villages in War Jaiñtia are reeling under darkness for the last several days after power lines developed technical snag due to inclement weather.
A student has complained to Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of power, Prestone Tynsong that students are making strenuous efforts to give their exam and the power disruption has added to their hardships.
Riki Mukhim in his letter said Nongtalang, Nongtalang-Shnongthymmai, Darrang, Shnongpdeng, Dawki, Bakur, Lamin, Sohkha, Sohkha Model, Sohkha Shnong, Pamtadong, Padu and other villages are without electricity since March 25.
“From several days, the electricity supply in our area is badly affected and students who are giving their Class 10, 12 and those preparing for semester examinations are facing difficulty to study,” Mukhim said.
“We always hear words that students and the youth are the future of a community and the nation. But if we don’t have electricity where is out future,” he questioned.
He further suggested the power department to conduct site inspections of electric poles installed in forest areas and to replace old rusted ones especially during the monsoons.
