A Bangladeshi, wanted in several trafficking cases in East Jaiñtia Hills district, was arrested today during an operation carried out by a police team in Kuliang area.
The person was identified as Misba Uddin. As per record and his statements it also revealed that he had been helping Bangladeshi nationals in crossing over into Indian Territory, Superintendent of Police, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said.
“He is one of the most wanted traffickers and he was placed under arrest. Investigation is in progress,” he added.
A police team from Umkiang PPP and Ratacherra infiltration check post had conducted the operation at Pyrtakuna and Kuliang area after credible information was received that some Bangladeshi nationals were trying to illegally sneak into the Indian Territory through the jungle and unfenced international border, Dhanoa said.
The team spotted the unidentified suspects moving through the jungle at Kuliang area led by one person. He was later seen coming out on the NH-06 at Kuliang area and trying to arrange a vehicle in order to ferry his people who were still hiding inside the jungle.
The police team on seeing his suspicious activities rushed to spot, while he tried to flee towards the jungle. After a chase he was arrested and the team recovered a mobile phone and a machete from his possession.
The person later revealed his name at Umkiang PPP during preliminary questioning. .
