Jowai, Apr 8: Sports and Youth Affairs Minister and local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla inspected the ongoing renovation work at the Kiang Nangbah Stadium in Jowai.
The stadium has played an important part in the production of talented athletes but has fallen behind in terms of infrastructure when compared to more modern stadiums in the state.
During his visit, the minister stressed the need to upgrade and modernise the stadium facilities to provide better infrastructure to athletes.
He informed that a new artificial synthetic football turf will be installed and a new artificial synthetic athletics track will be developed, along with a spectator gallery funded under a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Shylla was accompanied by District Sports Officer K Passah, officials from the West Jaintia District Sports Association and Public Works Department, who briefed him on the progress of the ongoing renovation work.
