The Tourism Promoters Trekking Society, Wahkhen has delayed the reopening of the tourist spot at Mawryngkhang due to the requirement for repairs.
This was informed by the society Secretary today.
The state government had recently issued a notification to allow for the reopening of tourist spots for local tourists from October 16 but urgent repairs are required at the famous bamboo stairs and walkways at Mawryngkhang.
Practically all tourist places in Meghalaya have been closed since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in March.
“We urge the tourists to bear with us because we have to renovate everything for safety and security purposes,” SS Malngiang said, adding that the government should pay attention to tourist spots in Wahkhen if it is serious about uplifting and promoting tourism in the state.
