The Voice of the People Party’s (VPP) presence in the Parliament will serve as a “mouthpiece” for both Meghalaya and the country.
This was stated by Shillong MP Ricky AJ Syngkon today.
“I never felt alone in Delhi because I have God that I trust, and the people of the state who have bestowed their trust upon me. I have spoken on issues in the Parliament that the people of our state needed and I have spoken the truth about the political scenario in the state and country as a whole,” he said.
The Shillong MP during a function to release a book authored by HT Wells Sten held at the KJP Synod Sepngi Hall, Mission Compound here, also vowed to speak the truth in Parliament.
“I hope that the VPP in the Parliament will be a mouthpiece that sees India rise in all aspects,” he said.
Syngkon said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that India will be a developed Nation by 2047 will never become a reality as long as there is no equal respect for each individual including the minority, and no inclusiveness.
He also expressed gratitude to the people of the state that ensured the victory of the VPP in the Shillong Parliamentary seat even as he said that as a teacher he decided to enter politics after seeing the hardships faced by the people of the state and his sense of responsibility for the students and the future generations.
Syngkon also maintained that as member chosen by people they are the public servants and it doesn’t matter if they are in the ruling or opposition but to serve the people.
“Whatever is in the party manifesto I will also continue to raise about it in various places,” he added.
During the first session of the18th Lok Sabha last month, Syngkon took part in the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address and raised the demand for the inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution. He highlighted the importance of recognition of Khasi language adding that he wishes to address the House in Khasi like other MPs who got the chance to speak in their own mother tongues.
Besides the boundary issue, Syngkon pressed on the need to have more examination centres in Meghalaya for CUET and also highlighted the poor infrastructure in Umroi airport and also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prioritise development prospects in the North East region.
