Shillong, Sep 25:A day after Shemborlang Rynjah resigned as Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) due to health reasons, the ruling Voice of the People Party (VPP) nominated Nongthymmai MDC Winston Tony Lyngdoh as the new CEM.
The party also nominated Jaiaw-Mawprem MDC Denzil Raynard Chen as a new Executive Member.
VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit MLA said that Lyngdoh was nominated for the post since he was part of the earlier EC and the party wants continuity in the initiatives taken under Rynjah’s leadership.
Lyngdoh (47), has a graduate degree from St Anthony’s College as well as diplomas from the Indian Institute of Export Management (IIEM) in Bangalore and the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) in Guwahati. Under Rynjah he was the EM in charge of Trade, Enforcement, Labour Clearance Certificate and Revenue Collection.
Basaiawmoit claimed that the VPP, which has been in power for seven months, has streamlined the functioning of the KHADC and has lived up to its promises of a clean administration.
Meanwhile, on the proposal of the state government to pay the salaries of the employees of the autonomous district councils, the VPP chief said that if it was so concerned it should hike the budget allocation to these institutions.
Basaiawmoit said that the government should only provide a one time bailout package and that it could prevent financial crises in future by releasing the councils’ share of royalties and other income and grants without delays.
Basaiawmoit also said that the KHADC’s financial position is better than that of the GHADC and JHADC, with the VPP administration improving revenue collection.
