A virtual general meeting of the Meghalaya Joint Council of Trade Unions & Associations (MJCTU&A) was held to observe the ‘Save India Day’, a call given by all central trade unions to highlight the demands of the common man.
The meeting was held yesterday which was also participated by the Thma U Rangli (TUR) and activists of prominent social organisation of the State.
The meeting resolved to carry forward the struggle for building a strong and vibrant India and important resolutions were also adopted.
MJCTU&A president, Dr MN Bhattacharjee in a statement said that the meeting decided to urge upon all the members of the various unions/association in organised as well as unorganised sectors to insist upon all people of the State to vaccinate against the Covid-19 virus and take advantage of the vaccination drive launched by the government at different levels.
The meeting also congratulated TUR and its member, Angela Rangad for their persistent effort to provide relief to the marginalised section of people of the state, particularly the domestic helpers, hawkers, daily wage earners etc.
The association reiterated that the government should provide relief to the tune of Rs. 7000 per month along with 10 Kg Food grain to all, in line with demands of all central trade unions across of the country.
Taking note of a recent case of assault of two medical representatives by miscreants inside the compound of a prominent hospital and also similar such incidents the MJCTU&A urged upon the government not only to book the culprits at the earliest but also accord priority to maintenance of safe and secure environment throughout the State so that all economic, medical, educational, social and cultural activities may be carried out by the citizens without fear.
“The role of the leaders and the state governments does not end in setting high promises but they must deliver in real terms so that day to day activities of people continues unhindered,” the association said.
