The people of three villages under Raid Nongkhrah have continued to protest against the proposed opening of a wine shop on National Highway 6 in Ri-Bhoi.
Permission had been given to the wine shop owner by the Dorbar Shnong of Pahammardoloi and traditional chief of Raid Nongkhrah but this has been opposed by other villagers.
In June police and CRPF personnel had to be called to ensure that the protests could be dispersed peacefully.
The owner of the shop, Cornelius Kharhunai, who has met all government norms, intended to open his establishment today but opposing villagers of more than 100 prevented him from doing so again. Police were again called in to control the situation.
