Owners and drivers of vehicles in Ri Bhoi taken on Covid-19 pandemic and the assembly election duties have not been paid.
The issue was raised by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of All Ri Bhoi Passengers Vehicle (ARBPV), who met Deputy Commissioner Arpit Updhyaya seeking his immediate intervention.
The JAC, which represents all types of vehicles like taxis, sumo’s, buses, and pickup trucks in the district, said that the delay in releasing their pending bills has put them under difficulties.
Chairman of the committee, Bines Makri said that they have decided not to give away their vehicles on government duty in the future until their dues are cleared.
During the assembly elections, more than 400 vehicles were requisitioned by the district administration.
Makri said that the DC has assured to release only the pending bills related to election duty within 15 to 20 days but with regards to Covid-19 duty the matter will be examined.
“The Deputy Commissioner’s intervention is crucial to resolving this matter and ensuring that the owners and drivers receive their rightful payments in a timely manner,” the JAC said.
