Job card holders from the village of Moulakandi, under Demdema block, have submitted a complaint to their Block Development Officer seeking a new election for the Village Employment Council.
In the complaint, the villagers said that the three-year terms of the President and Secretary of the VEC have expired, yet the duo continue in office. The complaint was submitted yesterday.
The complainants also said that the Secretary and President are whimsical when it comes to the VEC’s work, carrying out projects that are of no benefit to the villagers.
“Various complaints have been filed against these VEC functionaries despite which they have no fear. They are whimsically wasting public funds by constructing a cement road at the road level between the Public Works Department road and Banat Madrassa. This work will be a waste as the area is flood prone,” said one of the complainants, Ziyadur Sheikh.
The villagers had apparently asked the VEC functionaries to increase the height of the road so that people could use it during floods.
“Instead of making the road high they have continued making the road using concrete and cement, which will crack within a few months,” added Zamal Sheikh.
