Shillong, Mar 1: A grand Pontifical High Mass was celebrated at the Sacred Heart Shrine in Tura on Sunday, presided over by Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, the Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal. The event marked the second day of his visit to Garo Hills.
Concelebrating with Archbishop Girelli were Bishop Andrew R Marak and Auxiliary Bishop Jose Chirackal. Prominent dignitaries in attendance included Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Mahendraganj MLA Sanjay A Sangma and other politicians.
Thousands of Catholic devotees packed the church, immersing themselves in prayer and devotion as the Apostolic Nuncio delivered his message.
Girelli had also offered prayers at the Catholic Cemetery in Tura and dedicated a special prayer for Sangma’s late father and political titan, Purno A Sangma.
