Uplifter Alternative is celebrating its silver jubilee with a range of activities, including a tennis ball cricket tournament, which concluded recently at Madan Nongthymmai here.
The two-day event was opened by Bawan Khyriem, president of Nongthymmai SCC on October 21 in the presence of other dignitaries, such as headman of Lumsohphoh Nangsan Pakyntein.
In the final, Nongkhyriem went up against Lumshyiap in an exciting match, the latter winning the title by 2 runs.
Lumshyiap won the toss and chose to bat first but were dismissed for just 45, with Kidlee Nongkhlaw of Nongkhyriem taking five wickets.
Given 8 overs to chase the target, Nongkhyriem fell agonisingly short, ending on 43/8.
As winners, Lumshyiap were presented with a cash prize of Rs 12,000, with Nongkhyriem awarded Rs 6,000.
Fourteen teams in all took part in the tournament and Uplifter Alternative will soon hold basketball and football tournaments, among other programmes over the 25th anniversary year.
