Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Savitri Thakur, today chaired a review meet with the Department of Social Welfare to assess central government schemes, challenges and outreach of key initiatives, like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Poshan Abhiyaan, Mission Shakti, etc.
The meeting included discussions on state-led initiatives to enhance women and child welfare and boost community-based interventions for inclusive development.
Speaking to reporters after the review meeting, Thakur informed that the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) have decreased while there are no cases of child marriage in Meghalaya.
“During the review meeting we found that there is a lack of training. We told the officials that we can extend help in providing them training,” Thakur said.
She added that whenever a central government scheme is being implemented in the state it should be uploaded on the website. Citing the Poshan Tracker as an example, Thakur said that if there is no implementation of the scheme on the portal then funds are not processed.
However, she pointed out that since Meghalaya is hilly in nature there is the problem of internet connectivity and therefore scheme data is not uploaded in the portals on time.
