Nongpoh, Sep 19: The long-cherished aspiration of the people from 20 villages in the Umtyrnga area of Ri Bhoi for a proper healthcare facility has finally been fulfilled, with the inauguration of the newly constructed sub-centre.
The villages set to benefit from the sub centre include Umtyrnga, Iongkhuli, Chibra, Mawiong, Barapathar, Lalmati, Behennodi, Nagrabil, Umsem, Umlathu, Pynker ABC, Pahamjula, Jyrmang AB, Pillingku AB, Kamalbari AB, and Jorsyiem.
The new facility was inaugurated by C&RD Minister Sosthenes Sohtun today in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, Dr. A.J. Syiemlieh, District Health Surveillance Officer, Migalan Marbaniang, Headman of Umtyrnga, healthcare staff and local residents.
The health sub centre was constructed at a cost of Rs 55 lakhs under the initiative of the Umtyrnga Village Health Council (VHC).
In his address, Sohtun urged the staff to work diligently and ensure that no complaints arise regarding the functioning of the facility. He stressed that the sub centre must truly serve its purpose of benefiting the people of the border area.
He also appealed to the public to maintain cleanliness and take proper care of the facility so that it can serve the community for many years and earn a reputation as one of the best not only within the Jirang constituency and Ri Bhoi district but across the state.
To mark the occasion, a free health camp was also organised, supported by healthcare professionals from Ri Bhoi and PA Sangma International Medical College.
