A delegation of traditional heads under the banner of the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong Umtyrnga area has alleged that the Hima Mylliem and the Syiem of Raid Marwet are deeply involved in the illegal registration of 12,000 acres of land at Umtyrnga village that was sold to Deilang Chirup Law in a case going back years.
Addressing the media today, spokesperson of the Synjuk, Marcus Lapasam, reiterated that out of the 12,000 acres of land illegally registered at Rs 78 crore, it was planned that around 7,413 acres was to be sold to the Borer Security Force (BSF).
Lapasam said that another shocking thing the Synjuk discovered is that the sub-registrar from the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi had, on October 25, 2018, issued a non-encumbrance certificate to Law for the land in Umtyrnga.
“We also found out, according to documents, that the land was sold at Rs 65,000 per acre,” he said, adding that they also found out that the Hima Mylliem and Raid Marwet sought for a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and wrote to the council’s Chief Executive Member requesting approval for Hima Mylliem to issue an NOC to Law. It was later learned that on March 13, 2019, the office of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem had received a letter from Law requesting an NOC to sell off part of the land to the BSF for a firing range.
The matter is now being heard by a court in Nongpoh.
“We hope that we will get justice and support against all these illegalities committed by the Hima Mylliem and Raid Marwet,” Lapasam said. “We also want the maps and GPS readings to be re-done in front of all the villagers in bright daylight along with experts so that truth is revealed.”
