Deputy Chief Minister in charge of the Public Works Department (Roads), Prestone Tynsong, today informed the Assembly that the four-lane road project from Umshyrpi to Baniun (Package 1) is being retendered.
In response to questions asked by Mylliem MLA Ronnie V Lyngdoh, Tynsong further informed that the status from Baniun towards Dawki (Package 2) the progress is 37.75 percent, while the Package 3 detailed project report (DPR) is under process, Package 4 is 30.10 percent complete and Package 5 has to be retendered.
Tynsong said that the reason for re-tendering for Package 1 was that the company that was allotted the work under the direct supervision of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd surrendered the work halfway.
Informing that in the first half of 2022 he personally went to New Delhi and met the Managing Director of NHIDCL and also met the Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways where a decision was taken for retendering, he said, “We have already completed the processing of retendering but only one party participated and the whole retendering process has to be restarted for Package 1.”
He however assured the house that the process of retendering will be complete within by the end of April and work will then resume.
And as far as Package 3 is concerned, he informed that this is the bypass through Pynursla where, at that point of time, the landowners and the traditional leaders were against the bypass, but now NHIDCL is preparing the DPR.
Relating Package 5, he said that, once again, the company allotted the work quit midway and now the process of retendering again is in the final stages.
