Residents of Umshiak village under Mawshynrut C&RD Block in West Khasi Hills District took upon themselves the task to repair the unattended PMGSY road from Athiabari to their village.
Elders of the village said they had approached concerned authorities a number of times to get the road repaired but has fallen into deaf ears.
The Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People, Aradonga unit too had taken up the issue with the West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner but no progress has been made so far.
