Umroi Airport touched a new high in terms of passenger numbers this past week, with a record 592 taking off or landing at Shillong closest airport on Monday.
The airport first touched 500 passengers in a single day in December and then hit 555 in March.
According to a tweet from the Airports Authority of India, Shillong, 327 passengers arrived at Umroi and 265 departed from it, giving the airport a total of 592 on May 23.
Centrally subsidised flights operate from the airport to Dibrugarh, Dimapur, Kolkata, Aizawl, Imphal and Silchar. The state-subsidised route via flybig to and from New Delhi also restarted recently, though Transport Minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare was quoted yesterday as saying he was unhappy with the service.
