The inauguration of the Umling checkpoint to curtail illegal infiltration has been pushed back by five days to December 21, it was announced today.
In a brief press release, the Commission and Secretary of the Tourism Department informed that the checkpoint, formally known as the Umling Facilitation Centre, in Ri-Bhoi will be inaugurated at 9:30am on that day and “will be full functioned from the same date.”
No reason for the postponement was given. It was initially planned that the checkpoint would be inaugurated tomorrow. However, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s recent Covid-19 diagnosis may have necessitated the date change.
