The core committee of the United Democratic Party (UDP) women’s wing has supported the party’s stand on the Inner Line Permit (ILP), boundary dispute, inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule, railways, etc.
The women’s wing core committee met today and its president, Pretty Kharpyngrope, said that the UDP’s stand for ILP and against railways are in Meghalaya’s interest.
“Whether it is a train carrying goods or a passenger train without implementation of the mechanism to check influx we will stand by our party’s decision on these issues because without proper mechanism the disadvantage outweighs the advantages if trains come to our state,” she said.
Informing that the women’s wing of the party has increased in strength and size in the entire Khasi-Jaiñtia Hills, she said that it is only the UDP that can deliver development for the state.
She also recalled the efforts of the late UDP leader, Donkupar Roy, who tried to bring all the regional parties together and Kharpyngrope hoped that, in time, a united regional front would emerge in the state.
