The Sohiong circle of the United Democratic Party (UDP) has put forward Synshar Lyngdoh, the nephew of the late HDR Lyngdoh as its preferred candidate for the seat when the election is eventually held.
The vote in Sohiong was postponed by the Election Commission to an unspecified future date, following the death of HDR Lyngdoh one week before polling.
The former cabinet minister had been hoping to take back the constituency after being voted out in 2013. He had recently quit the Congress Party to join the UDP.
Today, UDP leader Titosstarwell Chyne said that due procedures will be followed by the party before its election committee takes a decision on a new candidate.
The Sohiong circle, however, had already put forward Synshar Lyngdoh’s name in a letter to Chyne.
