Meghalaya’s meme makers are renowned for making hilarious, viral posts on practically any contemporary subject and it did not take long for netizens to come up with their take on spectacular and sudden collapse of the under-construction dome of the new Assembly building.
These included replacing the fallen structure with the superimposed face of the Speaker of the Assembly Metbah Lyngdoh or even the noticeably bald pate of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
Another meme, which Highland Post has yet to see, came to the attention of the United Democratic Party (UDP), one of the constituent members of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government.
While the satirical memes are usually ignored by the governing classes, this one was not ignored by the UDP, at least not the party’s building committee secretary, Allantry F Dkhar.
The meme in question wondered if the UDP’s new office near Shillong College is also being constructed by the same contractor responsible for the doomed dome.
The UDP was “pained” to learn of the meme, Dkhar said in a press release, adding, “For the benefit of all interested, this speculation is not true.”
