The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) gained an additional member today after independent MDC for Nongthymmai, Latiplang Kharkongor, pledged his support to coalition.
Kharkongor, a former Chief Executive Member, was formally welcomed to the UDA by the incumbent CEM, Titosstarwell Chyne, in the presence of Executive Members Martle Mukhim, Jambor War, Mitchell Wankhar and Teibor Pathaw.
The UDA has now increased its support to 21 MDCs in the 30-member KHADC.
Explaining why he decided to join the UDA, Kharkongor said, “This Executive Committee is taking initiatives on various issues that have been pending for years, like the demand for the Inner Line Permit.”
