The opposition Congress has withdrawn its no confidence motion against Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh.
Leader of the opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma, informed that the decision was taken today morning at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting.
The leader of the opposition said that the Congress has managed to get its point across by having a number of issues being properly articulated in the larger interest of the people and the state.
Opposition Congress legislators Zenith Sangma, Himalaya M Shangpliang, George B Lyngdoh and Kimfa S Marbaniang signed the original resolution against the Speaker on September 2.
Earlier, Dr Sangma had said that the resolution was “nothing personal” against Lyngdoh.
The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance legislators had been briefed on the need to defeat the opposition motion and had assured Chief Minister Conrad Sangma that they would be united.
