Four batters got half-centuries as Meghalaya went past 300 in their second innings of the U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy Plate Group match against Nagaland in Bhubaneshwar today.
With Nagaland having taken an 11-run first innings lead yesterday – Meghalaya were all out for 112 and Nagaland all out for 123 – Meghalaya overcame the small deficit before being bowled for 303. This means that Nagaland will start their chase of 293 for victory on the third day tomorrow.
Although they will have two full days to do it, such a large target will be a challenge, with Meghalaya’s bowlers sure to be keen to roll the opposition up cheaply.
Today, Sachin Kumar (74), Kevin Christopher (66), Rohit Yadav (61 not out) and Mrinal Das (57) all got half-centuries, though unfortunately none could push on for a really big score.
In the end, though, they led Meghalaya to 300-plus, only the second time this season they have reached such a total. After two early wickets, Das and Kumar put on 80 for the third wicket before Kumar and Christopher added another 108 for the fourth. After that another four wickets fell for just 10 runs, but Yadav was there through it all and he and No. 11 Manish Sharma (11) made 68 for the last wicket.
