Two persons were arrested by the BSF Meghalaya during its operation conducted to thwart smuggling of goods to Bangladesh.
Acting on specific tip-off, the BSF mobile check post deployed at Sonapur intercepted two bolero pickup trucks loaded with 15 liquor cartons and 32 bags of sugar from the bordering area of East Jaiñtia Hills.
Both drivers and his accomplices were arrested as they could not provide valid documents for the consignments and behaved suspiciously, the BSF said.
The seized liquor and sugar along with the persons were handed over to the Umkiang police station for further legal action.
In another operation, the BSF along with the police seized 3,100 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup meant for smuggling to Bangladesh through West Garo Hills district. The seized items were handed over to Dobasipara police station for further legal action.
